"Violet" is the common name for flowering plants of the Violaceae
family. They also belong to the genus Viola. These flowers
can be purple, blue, rose, yellow or even white. If you've ever seen
them a combination of any of these colors it was probably a hybrid (meaning
the parent Violets were not the same color). Over 60 species of this
flower grows in the United States.
You may be most familiar with Violets from seeing them in a garden,
florist, or getting them as a gift. However, medicines, dyes, as well
as perfumes have been made from them. Want to know another interesting
fact about these modest yet radiant marvels of nature? This flower is
the floral emblem of three states in the United States, New Jersey,
Rhode Island, and Wisconsin!
