A rose is a flower in the Rosaceae family. Although there are hundreds of species of wild roses, these flowers have also been classified within three main groups. There are Wild Roses, Old Garden Roses, and Modern Garden Roses.

Wild Roses appear much different than what you may have seen in the near by florist or garden. This mostly deciduous inhabiting species has four to five petals and varies in colors; however, they are mostly pink or white.

Old Garden roses have significant historical background amongst origin, nomenclature, and cultivation. They differ vastly from each other in regards to how many petals they have, whether they are shrubs or climbers, and how often they bloom.

Modern Garden Roses can sometimes be confused with old garden roses because the parent roses may be from that category. However, this group can be characterized by flower formation and growth. This type of flower is what you would normally see in a florist and is most likely the white rose sample used above.

(On a side note, the color white for roses symbolizes innocence and purity!)
