The Saguaro Cactus (Cereus giganteus or Carnegiea gigantea) is native to Arizona, California, and Mexico.
Saguaros may live 150 to 200 years reaching 15 meters
in height and may weigh up to 10 tons. It takes 10 years
for a saguaro to reach the height of 2 centimeters, but
after that it can grow 10 centimeters a year. Most
saguaro cacti die from being uprooted by wind or
washouts; this is due to their shallow, wide-ranging
roots that are designed to gather moisture from the desert.
