The scorpion possesses a greenish glow because an ultraviolet, or blacklight, was held over the scorpion while the images were taken. This phenomenon happens because of a substance in the hyaline layer of the scorpion's cuticle. Almost all scorpions portray this characteristic, however, some glow more brightly than others. In order for the fluorescing to occur, the cuticle must be hard, and that is why the babies in the last picture do not have this greenish tint. They must first molt and then their shells must harden.
