Cotton is a natural vegetable fiber that is commonly used as a raw
material for cloth. It is also found in a variety of textile products
because of its strength, absorbency, and capacity to be washed
and dyed.

The cotton plant is a small shrub of the genus belonging to the
mallow family. After an immature bud develops into an "oval boll,"
it splits open releasing the white seed hairs also known as lint.
When dry, these hairs have a spiral twist as seen in the images
above.
