The silk fabric above is "weighted", which means that
metallic particles have been added to the fabric to
give it more strength and texture.  Doing this makes
the fabric look more expensive.  However, because
lead and arsenic may be added to the fabric, the
United States only allows a 10% weighting for safety
reasons.  Usually, old weighted silks will appear
shredded and should be handled with care.
