      There are two important features about the cloth shown here.  The first, and most obvious, is that the cloth is dyed a blue color.  By looking at the blue cloth at a high magnification using the optical microscope, one can see that the fibers look clear.  The other important idea is that the cloth is actually made up of many individual fibers.  Many fibers make up a strand and many strands make up a piece of cloth.
